On Sunday 27 April, the MMR community celebrated (a day in advance) the Feast Day of Saint Peter Chanel. A priest of the Society of Mary, Peter Chanel was one of the first Marists to be missioned to the South Pacific. He was martyred on the island of Futuna in 1841.

St Peter Chanel is the patron of our place of hospitality for migrants, the Chanel Community Center.

As well as honoring our patron, Joey Requiso renewed his vows as a religious in the Society of Mary. Marists take the vows of poverty, chastity and obedience, for a year at a time during their initial formation, and then perpetually. Joey is due to spend one more year here in Ranong before returning to the Philippines for more seminary studies.

Congratulations to Joey as he continues his journey of formation as a Marist here in Thailand. And may the MMR community continue to serve the people of Ranong in the humble and compassionate spirit of St Peter Chanel.
